Empowering Therapists:

Where Sandtray, Play, & Geek Therapy Assemble

Feeling worn out, isolated, or like your toolbox just isn’t enough anymore—like a hero fighting without their allies or gear?
At PCSI, we understand the weight you carry as a helper—and we’re here to help you refill your own well. Through the powerful trifecta of sandtray, play, and geek therapy, you’ll not only earn credentials but also engage in the personal work and meaningful connections that reignite your passion for the field. Our trainings go beyond techniques, equipping you with fresh tools, renewed confidence, and a supportive fellowship worthy of any quest. You’ll leave restored, inspired, and ready to do your best work again—with a richer skillset, a stronger sense of belonging, and the courage to face every new “villain” that comes your client’s way.

At Playful Connections Sandtray Institute, we provide both in-person and online trainings in sandtray, play, and geek therapy—allowing you to earn CEs from the comfort of your own home or in a live setting.

Play, Sandtray, and Geek Therapy—The Power to Transform Lives.

At PCSI, our trifecta—Sandtray, Play, and Geek Therapy—combines the power of neuroscience with the language of play and the magic of fandom. As therapists, we know that emotional struggles and trauma often appear in complex, unique ways, and that talk therapy alone may not reach a child (or adult) whose primary language is imagination. Whether it’s through a play therapy technique grounded in brain science, a sandtray world built for self-expression, or a fandom-inspired intervention that taps into a client’s personal heroes and storylines, we create avenues for connection and healing when words aren’t enough.

Our mission is to equip you with innovative techniques, a strong community of like-minded professionals, and the support you need for your own heroic quest of helping others. Join our email list to discover how our trainings can expand your skills—and maybe even bring a little healing magic your way, too.

Frequently asked questions . . .

Got a question about sandtray, play, geek therapy or any of our programs? We’re here to help!!!

  • Sandtray Therapy Credentialing?

Sandtray credentials can be earned through the International Association for Sandtray Therapy (IAST) or the World Association for Sand Therapy Professionals (WASTP) by completing approved training levels, documenting client hours, and participating in supervision with an approved provider. Playful Connections Sandtray Institute can guide you from your first class to final credentialing. Depending on the program you complete, the process typically takes 6 months to 2 years and results in advanced skills, a respected credential, and connection to a supportive international community.

    WASTP: www.worldsandtherapy.org

  • Play Therapy Credentialing?

Play therapy credentials can be earned through the Association for Play Therapy (APT) by completing approved play therapy training hours, documenting clinical experience using play therapy, and participating in supervision with a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™. Applicants must hold a master’s or higher degree in a mental health field and be a licensed mental health professional (or under approved supervision toward licensure).

At Playful Connections Sandtray Institute, trainings are led by Bianca Kisselburg, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ (RPT-S), offering APT-approved hours and guidance to help you plan your path toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT), Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ (RPT-S), or School-Based Registered Play Therapist™ (SB-RPT). The process typically takes 2–7 years, depending on your pace, and results in specialized skills, a respected credential, and connection to a thriving play therapy community.

  • Geek Therapy Certification?

Geek Therapy certification can be earned through GeekTherapy.org by completing their 2-hour certification course, which equips helping professionals to ethically and effectively integrate fandom, pop culture, and personal passions into therapeutic or educational work. Applicants may be mental health professionals, educators, or others in related fields who want to use clients’ unique interests as tools for connection, engagement, and growth.

Bianca Kisselburg is Geek Therapy Certified (GTC) and brings these approaches into trainings at Playful Connections Sandtray Institute—showing therapists how to harness the power of comics, video games, movies, and other fandoms to create safe, meaningful pathways for healing. This 2-hour course results in a respected certification and connects participants to a community of practitioners who believe in the transformative power of geek culture.

  • Certification vs. Credentialed?

In the mental health world, a certification typically means you have completed a specific course or training that grants recognition of your knowledge or skills in a certain area. It’s often shorter in duration and may not require ongoing supervision, clinical hours, or continuing education.

A credential is a more extensive professional designation that usually requires meeting education and licensure prerequisites, completing advanced training, documenting supervised clinical experience, and sometimes passing an exam. Credentials are often regulated by professional organizations and take longer to earn.

  • Can anyone train in play and sandtray?

PCSI welcomes participants who are licensed in a mental health field or currently enrolled in a mental health graduate program. If you’re from a country that doesn’t license clinicians—or if you’re unsure whether you qualify—please email support@pcsandtray.com or bianca@pcsandtray.com to discuss your situation.

"A Transformational experience for myself both professionally and personally. The magic of this modality is something you have to experience for yourself."

“Move with the resistance not against it.” Bianca was great at showing us during training how to move with the resistance of children to make it a solution rather than a problem. I attended her training 4 years ago and the skills I took from the training have continued to be effective when working with children. We were trained on how to properly use attachment techniques, brain building games and more than that made working with kids fun for the child and the professional. Since this training I have found a new love for play therapy because of the techniques that it teaches but also because of Bianca being an awesome trainer. "

“I had the joy of attending a sandtray and play therapy based training with Bianca Kisselburg. Not only is she extremely well versed on the topics but she goes out of her way to ensure that you leave her trainings with skills you can take and use immediately. If you’re looking for a training provider who will give you real world, easy to implement skills, look no further. I will be attending more trainings in the future!”

Carly Rhyne, MS, LPC

“This was, hands down, the best training I have attended. Bianca was an amazing trainer, keeping things interactive and entertaining, all while supplying endless knowledge about the Sandtray world that has given me a fresh, new perspective on counseling my clients.”
